An enchanting assemblage of elegance and whimsy, this perfume bottle and stand form a unique composition that bridges two centuries of French decorative art. The finely cut crystal flacon, dating from the late 18th century, features delicate diamond engraving with gilded highlights and is characteristic of the refined Louis XVI taste for clarity, geometry, and restrained ornament. It now rests in a later 19th-century gilt bronze mount in the exuberant Louis XV style, richly cast with rocaille curves and adorned by two playful cherubs.
The theatrical contrast between the bottle’s neoclassical purity and the ornate base's Rococo exuberance creates a captivating dialogue of eras and aesthetics. This artful pairing may have been assembled in the 19th century as a romantic reinterpretation of the past.
Charming as a collector’s piece or repurposed as a petite soliflore, it would add a note of historic flair to a dressing table, mantelpiece, or curated vignette.
